  • Rory Stewart: Landscape and Action in Afghanistan
    Rory Stewart will be presented with the RSGS Livingstone Medal in recognition of his distinguished contribution to geography, particularly through his work in Afghanistan and his travel writing. He will be discussing how his experience of walking across Afghanistan informed his subsequent work establishing a charity and engaging in political debate on Afghanistan.

  • Yann Arthus-Bertrand: Home
    Yann Arthus-Bertrand, the French photographer, journalist, reporter and environmentalist responsible for the spectacular 'Earth from the Air' photographic exhibitions and publications, has been awarded the RSGS's inaugural Geddes Environment Medal, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to raising awareness of the natural enviroment and sustainability.

    Yann Arthus-Bertrand will speak at a screening of his spectacular and moving film Home and will be presented with his RSGS Geddes Environment Medal. This event was due to take place at Perth Concert Hall, but for technical reasons it will now be held at the Edinburgh Filmhouse. See www.filmhousecinema.com or contact 0131 228 2688 for details.

  • Ray Mears: Bushcraft Survival
    Ray Mears is bringing his unique one man show to Perth to coincide with his presentation of the RSGS Mungo Park Medal for exploration. Ray Mears' skills with nature and in bushcraft have been acquired through working in some of the world's remotest and harshest environments. In the fascinating presentation Ray brings together 30 years of study with a compelling story of wilderness, its wildlife and the bushcraft skills necessary for survival.

  • Engaging with Geodiversity: An exploration of the concept of Geodiversity, its relationship to biodiversity, and its integration in environmental management, planning, tourism and education. Speakers include Roseanna Cunningham MSP (Minister for Environment), Dr Iain Stewart (Plymouth University and television presenter) and Stuart Monro OBE (Our Dynamic Earth).
