Map of the village of St Kilda

Detail from Mathieson, J & Cockburn A.M Map of St. Kilda or Hirta and the adjacent islands and stacs (Inverness-shire) Ordnance Survey 1928.
Here, the line of the Main Street of the village which was laid out in the 1830s, can be seen running from the pier to the west end of the village, just below the 100 feet contour. The head dyke which encloses the village can be seen running parallel to the Main Street, below the 200 feet contour, and the village well 'Tobar Childa' can be seen in the north of the map. The (unverified) sites of two churches - St Columba in the west and Christ Church in the north - can also be seen, along with the graveyard. The hill to the west of the village is Mullach Sgar, and to the east Oiseval.
