David Hope-Jones explores themes of civic activism, sustainability, trade injustice and governance strengthening, highlighting some of the many ways Scotland learns from its friends in Malawi and benefits from the bilateral relationship. He discusses whether the hundreds of civic links which unite Scotland and Malawi offer a distinctive, innovative and effective approach to international development, and explores the relationship between government, parliament and civic society, and between trade and aid, and how this partnership approach is more important than ever in the era of Covid-19, Black Lives Matter, and Scotland hosting COP26.
