/// Climate Emergency Summits and Some... ///

Despite these testing times, our wee charity is continuing to punch well above its weight, to deliver an exciting and important mix of work.

In policy news, we have updates from our recent Climate Emergency Summits, and a new campaign
 'Five for the Future'.

There are also two videos from our Inspiring People At Home collection, starring blind adventurer Dean Dunbar, and the Executive Director of Outward Bound Oman, explorer Mark Evans.

To finish, we're sharing a thoughtful quote for the moment, and a video describing how to remain positive in the face of climate breakdown...
Climate Emergency Summits
Over recent weeks, we've hosted two important Climate Emergency Summits: policy meetings for experts in sustainability to offer ideas and solutions to the climate emergency. Held on Zoom, these meetings have focused on issues of construction, and on the importance of a green recovery post-COVID-19. The reports from these events have been submitted to Government to help inform policy, and are hosted on our website for anyone to read.

Five for the Future

We are encouraging all organisations to ask the same five questions at the end of each event they run in 2020 ahead of COP26. The Royal Society for Edinburgh, the James Hutton Institute, Scottish Natural Heritage, Young Scot and Scottish Enterprise have already indicated a willingness to take part. 'Five for the Future' will help generate a set of common answers, which in turn will help to shape an organisation- and society-wide set of key concerns.

Mark Evans, Executive Director of Outward Bound Oman, looks at what we can learn from some of the great explorers to inform our own psychology during lockdown, and remain resilient during periods of isolation.
Quote of the Month

Dr Fridtjof Nansen FRSGS was a Norwegian explorer born in 1861. He is famous for his Fram expedition bound for the North Pole, and for being the first person to traverse the Greenland Ice Sheet. In addition to his polar exploration, he was a scientist, diplomat and humanist, and he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his work on behalf of prisoners of war and starving people. Nansen was awarded the RSGS Gold Medal in 1897.
