Many tourists associate Cappadocia in Turkey with its spectacular balloon rides and underground cities; few people are aware that it has some of the most intriguing walks to be found anywhere in the world. There’s one drawback: there are few maps, and those that do exist show little detail. Richard Else shows the Cappadocia where hidden valleys are surrounded by the remains of an ancient civilisation. He explores how reliant we are on good mapping, and the challenges of walking without one in a landscape where the routes are not obvious. Whilst it’s a region that’s easily accessible, once you start exploring on foot you enter a different world; one that is rarely visited and full of surprises around each corner.

Talks begin at 7:30pm; tickets are FREE for RSGS Members, U18s and Students, or £6 for visitors.
