Wellbeing – Learning from Bhutan: A land of ‘Gross National Happiness’

Bhutan is a unique Himalayan kingdom, where happiness is measured over materialism, and where compassion is woven into the fabric of life. Bhutan’s landscapes, cultures and traditions inspire transformational change. They measure progress with Gross National Happiness rather than Gross National Product, are the only carbon negative country in the world, and have leading practices in sustainable tourism and compassionate conservation.

This event gives insight into this special Kingdom and its culture, exploring harmony and happiness. Karen Darke MBE (PhD), Paralympic gold-medallist and explorer met His Eminence Khedrupchen Rinpoche when she and a small group who were 'exploring inner gold' shared time at Rinpoche’s monastery high in the Black Mountains of Bhutan. ‘Inner Gold’ is a concept developed by Karen through her surprising life journey and discovery of the alchemy of transforming challenge into opportunity, ‘mud’ into ‘gold’. At this event, Karen and His Eminence Khedrupchen Rinpoche (more at https://khedrupfoundation.org) will take the audience on a journey into Bhutan, happiness and how we can all help ourselves and the world around us to flourish.
