We were delighted to see a great turnout at our first online Inspiring People talk with Sir David Hempleman-Adams last month, many thanks to all who attended.

This month we look forward to hosting an interview - originally shown in 2021 but back by popular demand - with Colonel John Blashford-Snell, the legendary explorer famously known for inventing white-water rafting and undertaking expeditions such as the descent of the Blue Nile and transporting a grand piano through the jungle as a gift to the musical Wai Wai tribe in Guyana. Col Blashford-Snell has led over 100 expeditions in almost every part of the world. Join us as he shares some of his most unbelievable tales from a life of adventure. Book tickets now through the 'tickets' button below!

HM The Queen visiting RSGS offices in Edinburgh in July 1984 (RSGS Collections)
We were honoured to be represented at events to commemorate our Patron, Her Majesty The Queen, in Edinburgh and London last month. RSGS Vice-Chair Roger Crofts attended the Motion of Condolence at Scottish Parliament, and RSGS Chief Executive Mike Robinson attended the funeral at Westminster Abbey. On his return, Mike wrote an article for our blog reflecting on his fortnight beginning in a foodbank and culminating in a state occasion.
We had a brilliant time at Doors Open Day on Saturday 17th September, as we welcomed over 120 visitors of all ages from all over the world to the Fair Maid's House, Including people from Australia, the United States, Canada, Hungary, Spain, France, Wales, England and Scotland. Our special display put together by our volunteers, titled 'Roots, Routes and RSGS' , highlighted our remarkable Visitors Book and the potential storylines it hides in its pages, and was greatly enjoyed by our visitors. Thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers and staff who helped organise and host the event.
Join us on Tuesday 11th October at 2pm for our latest Meet the Experts Q&A session. This month's theme is 'The Role of Carbon Capture'. We'll be joined by Professor Stuart Haszeldine, Director of Scottish Carbon Capture & Storage (SCCS), and Professor of Carbon Capture and Storage at the University of Edinburgh, and by Professor David Beerling, Founder/ Director of the Leverhulme Centre for Climate Change Mitigation, and Professor of Natural Sciences at the University of Sheffield.
