This September, we are offering a specially curated tour around the Fair Maid's House in Perth, focusing on everything trains and railways. Discover captivating stories of historic rail journeys, and gain unique insights into both modern and historic railway maps.

During every tour you'll hear from four speakers:

Pathways to Perth:  RSGS sets the scene, by introducing the event and offering a brief history of RSGS.

200 years of Railway History in Maps: Guest Speaker David Spaven, who has spent his working life in and around the rail industry, will use extracts from several dozen maps to explore 200 years of railway history.

Mapping Railways: RSGS Collections Team shares a variety of maps of railway interest dating from the 1830s to recent times, covering a variety of countries ranging from Britain and Ireland to USA, Kenya and Australia..

A Look into the Archive: RSGS Writer in Residence, Jo Woolf, will tell the stories of two explorers whose journeys involved epic adventures by rail. One involves gun-toting Wild West pioneers, the other draws us into Soviet-controlled Central Asia.
