To keep our Members inspired during lockdown, we pulled together a special 'Armchair Edition' of our magazine, The Geographer. And now, we've decided to make it freely available for anyone at home.
It features interviews with cloud spotter Gavin Pretor-Pinney and explorer Mollie Hughes; articles from stargazer Mark Thompson and gardener Brian Cunningham; stunning images from Sophie Carr and the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards; and recommendations, activities and insight from RSGS Members, volunteers and staff, including our wonderful Explorers-in-Residence, and Jo Woolf, our Writer-in-Residence, whose beautiful articles and well-crafted interviews are central to this edition. Enjoy!

From Holocene by Bon Iver and Landslide by Oh Wonder, to Peter Maxwell Davies' Farewell to Stromness and Mendelssohn's Fingal's Cave, it's very easy to find geographical influences in any musical style. To this end, and to bring these diverse sounds together, we have produced a geo-inspired playlist on Spotify that anyone can listen to at home! Entitled RSGS GeoSoundz, it can be accessed publicly, and anyone can add a suitable tune on the app. So get thinking, and we look forward to hearing your suggestions.

In late March, we held another of our Climate Emergency Summits, this time focusing on Nature-Based Solutions. With support from Scottish Natural Heritage, we brought together some of the leading minds in this field for a virtual Zoom meeting, discussing everything from peatland restoration and rewilding, to blue carbon and greenwashing. As with all our Climate Emergency Summits, this report will be submitted to Government in due course. The next Summit will take place on Friday 22nd May and will be based around Construction. If you're interested in attending please contact enquiries@rsgs.org
