/// RSGS Chalk Talks ///

As most students continue to learn from home, we were delighted last week to release our first online video lesson for Higher Geography Students with the help of Dollar Academy. And also for schools there are new lesson plans on our website, devised by Education Scotland and linked to our quarterly magazine

In other news, at the end of January, we held our seventh Climate Emergency Summit focused on sustainable procurement, and a very well attended eighth Summit focused on land. And we were delighted to announce that Highlands and Islands Enterprise have encouraged 45 colleagues to up-skill through our Climate Solutions course.

As ever, our Inspiring People At Home events have been coming thick and fast of late, and you can catch up with most of these on our website. There are four more to add to your diary this February, as well as our monthly GeoQuizzical event! And look out for our Evening with Jonathon Porritt on Monday 1st March.

Finally, we would like to thank nearly 1,000 households for purchasing tickets for Michael Palin's special online event at the beginning of 2021, and for all your support across the past 12 months. To outline some of our achievements in 2020, despite the pandemic, we have put together a short promotional film, recorded and edited remotely by our staff...
RSGS Chalk Talks
The first video, Unit 1, is pitched at Higher Level Geography students, and focusses on the atmosphere. It is presented by the Chair of our Education Committee, Alastair McConnell, who is also Head of Geography at Dollar Academy.
These RSGS Chalk Talks are a result of our ‘Helping Hand for Schools’ appeal which raised more than £20,000 for content creation. For those who donated to this, we offer our sincere thanks. The video series will summarise topics in the Scottish Geography curriculum at Nat5 and Higher level, from glaciers to coasts, cities to deserts, and everything in between.

Videos will be hosted at the link below, and will be uploaded as they are created.

Climate Commitment

To engage and improve the understanding of its employees, Highlands and Islands Enterprise have committed to putting 45 staff through Climate Solutions, our innovative, online climate qualification.

Climate Solutions consists of a 20-hour online qualification and bespoke 1-day workshop aimed specifically at the business community – for those who are pressed for time but require up-skilling in order to help make the sustainability changes we all need to see.

In helping tackle climate change, the course not only outlines moral, environmental and political incentives for pursuing more sustainable policies, it also highlights the clear business case for green action.
