/// Inspiration in Isolation ///

In these difficult times, the RSGS remains a bastion for joined-up geographical thinking, positive solutions, and inspiring content. And this newsletter is no exception...

We're announcing our new competition, Craft the RSGS, to keep you amused at home. And we are delighted to share the news that Climate Solutions, our innovative online course, is now open for participants to up-skill virtually from anywhere in the world!

There are then some inspiring words of wisdom from Sir Ernest Shackleton, an update from our third Climate Emergency Summit, and a blog article on the climate emergency.

Craft the RSGS
From Apollo 11 to Kon-Tiki, Sir Ernest Shackleton to Sir David Attenborough, and the Fair Maid’s House to the RSGS staff and volunteers, our small charity boasts some of the most engaging and entertaining stories of the past 135 years. And to celebrate the best of these – whilst helping to occupy time at home – we’ve come up with a creative competition to keep you amused. ‘Craft the RSGS’ is a light-hearted opportunity to unearth your knitting needles, pull out your colouring pencils, or locate your Lego, all with the aim of producing a piece of ‘art’ relating to our work, our people, or our history.

Once you’ve finished your masterpiece, please send us a picture of it (electronically if possible) – and the best of these items will be showcased at a special exhibition in our Visitor Centre in Perth once things settle down.

Climate Solutions: Get Involved

Climate Solutions is our new course offering a quick way to gain significant understanding of one of the most important issues of our generation: climate change. It will help prepare individuals and organisations for this transformation, and outline where the opportunities lie.

Places on this course are now available, and we are currently offering them for £300 per participant, which represents a 33% early bird discount. This offer ends in December 2020, though the course must be completed within 3 months to qualify. Please sign-up now to save money and start making a difference!

Quote of the Month

“Difficulties are just things to overcome, after all.”

This quote is one of the first things you see when you come into our offices in Perth, and a fitting sentiment for this testing time. Stay positive, keep inspired, and heed the words of our former Secretary, Sir Ernest Shackleton!
Climate Emergency Summit
Working with Scottish Natural Heritage, our third Climate Emergency Summit went ahead as planned on Monday 30th March, focusing on Nature-Based Solutions. But, of course, it was completed digitally, with over 40 organisations tuning into our online zoom platform! The lead coordinators are currently writing up the key findings, and a report will be published in the coming weeks and sent to Government for consideration.

There is an appetite for further Summits, so please keep an eye on our website and social media for updates.

What an Emergency Looks Like
"In the case of coronavirus, despite some amount of confusion, at least we now know what an emergency response looks like..."
