An Interview with James Bluemel Tuesday 28th November 7:30pm
This month, we are delighted to be hosting director James Bluemel for an interview with Dr Vanessa Collingridge at AK Bell Library in Perth about his award winning documentaries. Just some of James's well known work includes the five-part series Once Upon a Time in Northern Ireland, which since its release has won near-universal accolades and is the follow-up to his equally acclaimed 2020 documentary Once Upon a Time in Iraq. He is also the creator behind the documentaries Pandemic and Exodus. Join us as James takes us behind the stories of his work.

In August 2021, Alex Moran and Mike Coppock completed the first ever Island Munros Triathlon, in 32 hours and 22 minutes, scaling 13 Munros with 6,461m of ascent, and covering 309km of distance between them. Never before had all 13 of the Scottish island Munros been attempted in a single non-stop push, by running, cycling and swimming through the dramatic landscape of the Northwest Highlands. Alex shares spectacular images and stories in his account of the journey.
Mark Evans shares the story of Harry St John Philby’s pioneering 1917 journey across Arabia, and his own recent Heart of Arabia expedition with Philby’s Saudi Arabian granddaughter, retracing Philby’s footsteps from east to west across Arabia, on foot, by camel and by 4x4.
Chief Executive of the European Climate Foundation and leading academic Professor Laurence Tubiana spoke at the University of Edinburgh on Friday 27th October, at a special event hosted by RSGS. Professor Tubiana is most widely known for her instrumental role in the development and negotiation of The Paris Agreement in 2015, when she was appointed as France's Special Representative for COP21.
At the event she was presented with RSGS Honorary Fellowship and the prestigious RSGS Shackleton Medal for her work as an internationally recognised leader in the global climate arena.
Libby Penman & Doug Allan in Perth
We were delighted to have RSGS Mungo Park Medallist Doug Allan and 2022–23 Inspiring People talks programme speaker Libby Penman visit RSGS HQ in October to create a short film for the Open University Art and Ecology project. They were filming at multiple locations around Perth for the project on the relationship between Scottish artists, explorers, and the Arctic regions, focusing on polar bears specifically.
