/// Fabulous February, Marvellous March ///

Coming up in March are the last few Inspiring People talks of our 2019-20 season – and what a line-up we've got in store, including the Executive Producer of Seven Worlds, One Planet, our Explorers-in-Residence, and a Sony World Photographer of the Year! What's more, before each talk given by Bruce Gittings in Inverness, Perth and Stirling there will be a FREE RSGS exhibition!

February saw a fantastic event starring explorer Levison Wood, and the publication of our second Climate Emergency Summit document, as well as the addition of Jamie Livingstone FRSGS into our geographical network, and the publication of a list of Scotland's geographical experts.

Levison Wood at RSGS
In early February, explorer, author and broadcaster Levison Wood was made Honorary Fellow of RSGS, after an entertaining and amusing talk at Perth Concert Hall. Through his personable, amenable approach, Levison has captured the public’s imagination with his infectious love for adventure, travel and storytelling. But it is his quest to paint an honest and hopeful picture of misrepresented parts of the world that really sets him apart. Through his capacity to inspire trust in people, Levison provides a platform for locals to tell their stories. And as such, he presents a much more positive, hopeful and compassionate story for the world – a story which is rarely portrayed on our news channels and social media.
Climate Emergency Summit II
We held our second Climate Emergency Summit in January, bringing together experts in sustainability working across a broad spectrum of topics, fields and industries. The theme for this event was ‘Financing the Transition: Tax and Subsidies’. Priority themes and action areas identified ranged from a renewable sovereign wealth fund and GDP alternatives, to free public transport for all and a new Climate Change Emergency (Scotland) Bill. The key findings have been published and will be submitted to Government.

The next summit, on nature-based solutions, will be held in Stirling on Monday 30th March. If interested in attending, please contact enquiries@rsgs.org with the subject 'Climate Summit III'.
Jamie Livingstone FRSGS
Jamie Livingstone FRSGS (L) and Mike Robinson RSGS Chief Executive (R)
Congratulations to our latest Honorary Fellow, Jamie Livingstone, Head of Oxfam Scotland. Over the past 6 years, Jamie has led a team working on projects and campaigns to help tackle poverty, inequality and food insecurity in Scotland, as well as Scotland’s contribution to global campaigns on economic inequality, conflict and the climate emergency. Jamie is also a board member of Stop Climate Chaos Scotland and campaigned for the Scottish Government to establish the world’s first Climate Justice Fund. The award was given for providing a voice for people who need it the most and offering a vision – and solutions – to bring about a fairer society in Scotland, and the wider world.
Scotland's Experts

Here at RSGS, we sit at the heart of a broad network of communicators, policy-makers, practitioners, explorers and, of course, academics. And to help identify this latter group, we have prepared an up-to-date and comprehensive list of geography academics currently working in Scotland. This freely accessible resource organises these practitioners into ten key geographic themes and 24 disciplinary sub-themes.
